DJ Harrison – ShootEmUpMixes 1 & 2

DJ Harrison brings his raw analog funk sound to classic tracks from Missy Elliot, Dr Dre Snoop DoggMos DefA Tribe Called Quest, and more on the 20+ minute blend “ShootEmUpMixes 1 & 2” (HERE). Fair warning…get it while you can, because it may not be available for too much longer.

DJ Harrison – DustyPellePelle

 Hip-Hop/Instrumental Hip-Hop/Beats

New music from producer/multi-instrumentalist DJ Harrison on the blunted toned, lo-fi hip-hop & funk set DustyPellePelle (HERE)Dope moments can be heard all over this selection, with  joints like the cool-out jazz funk cut “WurlyBirdz”; the uprocking body mover “StashedBoxez”; the neo-soul outtake “RVALandmarkz”; and the heavy stomping opening track “DrumCirclez” serving as “must hear” points of interest.

LIVE45’s | Sam Reed- Real Feel Sound

New music live and direct from the RSS

New music from a up-and-coming singer who goes by the name of Sam Reed. The track is called Real Feel Soundand it showcases a driving and unflinching performance from a young singer who more than stands her own when set against a backdrop of feverish overdriven guitars and breakneck drums. The production on this number comes to us courtesy of DJ Harrison and his Jellowstone music collectiver and showcases a more rock oriented (but still soulful) performance from the team. Ms Reed keeps it hot-blooded on this one, and rides the changes in the track like a seasoned vet. Great work from a new name on my radar. And if you’re diggin the single, be sure to order Sam Reed‘s debut project, This Is Love, on Amazon and iTunes now.

LIVE45's | DJ Harrison- The Richmond Sound

Beatmaker/Multi-instrumentalist/Music making machine DJ Harrison will be dropping a brand new project later this month. And while I’m not able to cover Harrison‘s music as thoroughly as I would like to, believe me when I say that this young brother is incredibly talented and has a vault full of dope music to back up that claim. Not one to leave his fans fiendin’ until the new album drops, DJ Harrison has decided to leak a jazzy, organ-driven number entitled The Richmond Soundwhich is actually an outtake from the new LP’s recording sessions. Press play and enjoy people.

NEW RELEASES | DJ Harrison & Friends- Polytoned

Here’s a really mind blowing mix of spaced out, jazz-funk driven, hip-hop and soul music (whew) entitled Polytoned from producer/multi-instrumentalist DJ Harrison. The set recalls the warm, lush sounds of 70’s electric jazz yet each track has a decidedly dusty hip-hop grit glowing at its edges. After setting an almost ominous tone with the fluttering sounds of  Jellowstone Introand sounding the alarm with the dizzying Bitches Brew Tea“, DJ Harrison segues into a heavy jazz-funk mode with the amazing RVA Analog/ VA Nights. The cut starts as a body-moving funk groover that recalls the best work of Lonnie Liston Smith then morphs into a plush Fender Rhodes affair about halfway through. The appropriately titled Change Directionstakes the stage next and allows DJ Harrison and friends to switch things up with a bluesy rock number that somehow manages to sound right at home on a mostly jazzy hip-hop sounding album. After suddenly venturing into the amplified realm of 70’s rock, the album just as suddenly steers itself back into a jazzy hip hop lane with the tracks Stuck Stone/JellowstoneJokes, Rush Hourand Bubble Love“.
